چکیده

Abstract Background Fusarium odoratissimum ( Foc TR4) is a devastating fungal pathogen that causes Panama wilt in Cavendish banana, high value crop generates significant revenue. The excessive use of synthetic fungicides for disease control poses risks to both human health and the environment. Consequently, there pressing need eco-friendly alternatives manage this disease. One potential approach utilization biocontrol agents, which have shown promise control. This study aimed evaluate endophytes isolated from naturally-resistant cultivar Cardaba banana against TR4. These isolates were subjected dual culture assay, characterized based on morpho-cultural characteristics, confirmed molecularly using internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region rDNA. Results Of 15 Cardaba; Blakeslea trispora, Pseudopestalotiopsis theae , Xylaria badia, Nigrospora hainanensis, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, feejeensis, Gymnoascus reessii, subglutinans, Rigidoporus vinctus, Macrophomina phaseolina showed antagonistic activity F. . Isolates X. feejeensis (USMJMTBL10), G. reesii (USMJMTBL11), M. (USMJMTBR1) had highest 87.8–96.6% vitro. Conclusion presents evidence Cardaba-associated identified research, as effective agents causal agent banana. Our findings suggest these hold managing TR4-infected plants. Future research will focus planta testing, validation greenhouse field trials, well development formulations application protocols optimize an integrated management bananas.

Identification of Volatile Metabolites from Fungal Endophytes with Biocontrol Potential towards Fusarium oxysporum F. sp. cubense

Problem statement: Fungal endophytes are widely studied for their potential as biocontrol agents towards fungal pathogens. In vitro assessments usually reveal their antibiosis and mycoparasitism nature, but little is understood regarding their production of volatile metabolites as mechanisms of antagonism. Approach: This study explored the potential of fungal endophytes in controlling the patho...

Fungal endophytes of wild and hybrid Vitis leaves and their potential for vineyard biocontrol.

Plants are colonized by diverse assemblages of fungal endophytes that have potential as biocontrol agents for a variety of crops, including grapevine. Although the diversity of symbionts can be very high in wild plants, the fungal endophytes of wild Vitis plants have not yet been investigated. We surveyed the fungal endophytes of 6 wild populations of Vitis riparia, as well as a cold-tolerant, ...

Panama Disease: A Classic and Destructive Disease of Banana

Panama disease, also known as Fusarium wilt of banana (Musa spp.), is one of the most notorious of all plant diseases (9,11). Although the pathogen probably originated in Southeast Asia, the disease was first reported in Australia in 1876 (7). By 1950, few banana-producing regions remained free of the disease. Panama disease is now found in all banana-producing regions except islands in the Sou...

Fungal Endophytes of Grasses

Mutualistic interactions between species are receiving increased attention from ecologists, although research lags far behind analogous work on competition or predator-prey interactions. Most research has focused on rather showy mutualisms such as pollination or fruit dispersal and has suggested that mutualisms are more important in tropical communities than in temperate communities (67). Plant...

Fungal endophytes: a potential source of antifungal compounds.

The prevalence of invasive fungal infections has increased significantly during organ transplantation, cancer chemotherapy and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. However, only a limited number of antifungal agents are currently available for the treatment of life-threatening fungal infections. Although new antifungal agents have been introduced in the market, the development of resistance ...
